Charles Henry Silas

Staff Sergeant Charles Henry Silas, USAF, Ret., 82, of Lake Charles passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in the comfort of his home. Mr. Silas was born in Winnfield, LA and has lived nearly sixty years in Lake Charles. He was a graduate of Ramsey Preparatory School. Silas retired Staff Sergeant from the United States Air Force. He served in Vietnam and the Korean Conflict and was awarded Airmen of the Year. During his younger years, he enjoyed working on cars, as he grew older, looking under the hood of every new car of family and friends. He also enjoyed going for a walk, fishing, cheering on LSU with his wife and loved playing cards, especially solitaire. Mr. Silas was a devoted family man, who took great pride is his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be most remembered for his sense of humor and love for making people laugh. He leaves to cherish his memory, three step-children, Frank James Brocato, Sr. and wife Dianne of Moss Bluff, Jerry Joseph Brocato, Sr. of Moss Bluff and Carolyn Dunman Harris and husband Jay of Lake Charles; eleven grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Rodney Silas of Birmingham, AL; four sisters, Martha Capps, Shirley Honeycutt, Margaret Cadle and Linda Duncan, all of Birmingham and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy "Bootsie" Reeves of Westlake and Bertha "Bert" Romero of Moss Bluff. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years, Frances Caroline Silas; parents, Charley and Grace Hogan Silas and three brothers, Stephen, Donald and Edward Silas. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 18, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ray Hundley will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Friday will be from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue Saturday from 8:30 AM until the time of service in the funeral home. The family of Mr. Silas wishes to extend sincere "THANKS" to Jay and Carolyn Harris for their care and compassion for "PawPaw".
