Charles Herman Miia

Charles Herman Miia, 89, of Lake Charles, La died Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at a care facility in Baton Rouge, La. Charles Herman Miia was born on March 2, 1925 in Abbeville, La. He graduated from E. Broussard High School in Cow Island, La. After High School he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and witnessed the surrender of Japan from the deck of his submarine, the USS Cavalla SS244. After WWII he went home and married Myrtis Corner and had two daughters, Marie and Mona. He started his business career in Lake Charles shortly thereafter. He worked for Farmers Rice Milling Company in Lake Charles for over fifty years and was the manager for many of those years until retirement at age eighty. Charles "Cook" was a sweet, funny man who was loved by all, especially his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtis "Bud", parents, Ovey and Della Nunez Miia; brother Tommy "Snook" Miia, wife Pat and his sister Ima Pere. He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands: Marie Miia Carmouche and husband Jim, and Mona Miia Drendall and husband John. Also his six grandchildren: James P. "Jimbo" and wife Diane, Christina "Christie" Carmouche Hodges; Charles "Charlie" M. Carmouche and wife Kristen; Peter "Pete" Carmouche and wife Heather; John "Little John" V. Drendall, III and wife Kendahl; and Michael "Mike" Drendall and wife Janelle. Also, twelve great grandchildren: Hunter Carmouche, Victoria Carmouche, Hagen Hodges, Hannah Hodges, Collin Carmouche, Logan Carmouche, Hudson Carmouche, Cohen Carmouche, Pierson Carmouche, Aubree Carmouche, Paxton Carmouche and Mallory Carmouche. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Ollie Steele Burden Manor in Baton Rouge for the love and kindness that they showed their father. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, November 21, 2014 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Friday, November 21, 2014 from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery. Rev. Bill Miller will officiate services.
