Charles J. Simmons, 76, of Lake Charles, departed from this life on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from the comfort of his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.


Mr. Simmons was born July 30, 1934 in Orange, TX. He was raised and educated in Texas and lived most of his adult life in Lake Charles. He served the United States Army. He worked primarily in the Construction Industry as a driver. For fun, he enjoyed watching football.


Mr. Simmons was a devoted father and grandfather; his greatest times were shared with his grandchildren. He was also a devoted Christian who took great pride in going to church and teaching Sunday school. He was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church.


He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife, Lena McFarland Simmons of Lake Charles; two daughters, Loretta Lynn Burns of Lake Charles and Anita Michelle Guillory and husband James of Ragley; six grandchildren, Coby Guillory, Victoria "Tori" Burns, Kyle Burns, Dalton Guillory, Shayla Guillory and Dylan Simmons; one sister, Gwen Bland of Orange, TX and one brother, Archie "Jaroy" Simmons and wife Alyce of Azel, TX.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Jones Franklin and Edna Manning Simmons and one brother, Billy Simmons.


Mr. Simmons family wish to extend sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Heart of Hospice for their excellence in care and compassion; also to their dear friend, Bobby Morris for his immeasurable loyalty during this time.


Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 23, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Don Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in Broussard Cemetery in Lacassine. Visitation Saturday will be from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM and will continue Sunday from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
