Charles L. Shreve, Sr.

Mr. Charles L. Shreve, Sr., 84, of North Augusta, SC and a former longtime resident of Lake Charles, LA, husband of the late Julia Donaldson Shreve, entered into rest peacefully, on Tuesday, January 17th, 2012, with his family at his side.

Born in Crowley, LA, he was a son of the late O.P. and Lydia A. Fruge Shreve. He had been a resident of Lake Charles most of his life before relocating to North Augusta to be closer to his son, Chuck. A devout Catholic, he was a communicant of St. Henry Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. A Vietnam Veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy for twenty years and retired as a Petty Officer First Class. Following his retirement from the Navy, he began his career with the United States Postal Service. He was also a member of the American Legion.

In addition to his parents and wife, family members include, a daughter, Bridgette Wright, Lake Charles, LA; son, Charles L. "Chuck" Shreve, Jr.,(Angie) North Augusta, SC; siblings, Eddye Pipia, (Paul) Long Island, NY, Beverly Maffie, Phoenix, AZ and Marie Dettling, Hadley, MA; grandchildren, Andrea Mier, Jack Piirainen, Robin Piirainen, Cindy Hebert, Charles L. "Charlie" Shreve, III and Veronica Shreve and ten great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by nine siblings.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM Saturday January 21, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Home with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday January 22 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Ray Granger Officiating. Burial will be at 11:30 AM Monday January 23 at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary, Louisiana with military honors.
