Charles "Joey" McMillen

November 27, 1961 — February 9, 2025

Charles Joseph "Joey" McMillen, 63, passed away on February 9, 2025, in Sulphur, Louisiana. Born on November 27, 1961, in Sulphur to Charles Lee McMillen and Cora Faith McDonnold McMillen, Joey was a man of humility, kindness, and unwavering generosity.

A member of Maplewood First Baptist Church, Joey was always ready to lend a helping hand, often expecting nothing in return but a cup of coffee and a good conversation. His heart for service was evident in the way he cared for others, always willing to go the extra mile to help those in need.

Joey's love for music was a defining part of his life. Coming from a talented musical family, he played the trumpet in his younger years, best remembered for his soaring high notes. His passion for music extended to his love for late '70s rock, especially bands like Rush, Cheap Trick, Loggins and Messina, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Karen Carpenter. This deep appreciation for music inspired his younger brother Tim and paved the way for his daughter Claire's musical journey.

In his younger years, Joey also had a passion for classic cars and spent many weekends in Houston with his father and brother at drag races. A dedicated New Orleans Saints fan, he never missed a game, cheering them on through every season.

Joey was a wonderful friend, a dedicated businessman, and, most importantly, an amazing father. His daughter, Claire, was the light of his life, and he took immense pride in her accomplishments. In the early 1990s, he founded McMillen Refrigeration after apprenticing under his grandfather. Through his hard work, he provided comfort to countless families in Southwest Louisiana for many years.

Joey had a soft spot for animals, especially his beloved cats, whom he cared for dearly over the years.

He is survived by his loving mother, Cora McMillen; his siblings, Latricia McMillen, Tim McMillen and wife Becky, and Hope McMillen Tilford and husband Mark; his cherished daughter, Claire McMillen; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service will be held in Joey's honor on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Maplewood First Baptist Church with a graveside service to follow. Visitation will be open to the public beginning at 10:00 AM before the service.

Joey's kind spirit, love for music, and dedication to those he held dear will forever be remembered. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
