Charles Samuel Liggio, Sr.

Charles Samuel Liggio, Sr., 86, of Lake Charles passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 in Zwolle, LA.

Mr. Liggio was born on April 12, 1934 in Lake Charles, LA to Sam and Josephine Pecorino Liggio.

Charles was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, and the Lake Charles community, having served in many capacities over several decades.  He was a member of the Jaycees, and Kiwanis Club.  He was elected to serve as a Calcasieu Parish Police Juror from 1972 until 1995, serving as President for several of those years.  He served as President during the time that parish government was reformed, changing from the ward system to the unit system in the 1970s.  While on the Police Jury, he was instrumental in the movement to pave most parish roads.  He was the parish liaison in the acquisition of the Chennault International Airport. He retired after 30 years of service with State Farm as auto claims office manager.

Those left to cherish his memory are, his four children, Charles ChuckLiggio, Jr., Scott Liggio (Esther), Lori Liggio Newbury, and Leslie Liggio; five grandchildren, Amanda Liggio Coltharp (Chad), Adam Liggio, Anna Liggio, Alyson Newbury, and Alexander AlecLiggio, and two great-grandchildren, Miles and Emerson Coltharp; his sister, Angela Miller (Frank), and his brother, John Liggio (Gail).

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved wife of 60 years, Norma Comeaux Liggio.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the care given to our father by his caregiver for over five years, Wanda Hale, as well as Heart of Hospice during his final months.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2020 in Consolata Cemetery.  Msgr. Jace Eskind will officiate.  Burial will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.  A memorial service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made St. Louis Catholic High School, St. Margaret Catholic Church, or the McNeese State University Foundation.
