Charles Sheumaker

October 18, 1941 — May 22, 2013

Dr. Charles Sheumaker, 71, passed away peacefully May 22, 2013 in Lake Charles surrounded by his family following a lengthily battle with Parkinson disease.


Dr. Sheumaker was a native of Lake Charles and a retired Professor of Mathematics from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His undergraduate work was completed at Harding University, Master's degree at LSU and his Doctorate earned at Auburn University. He was an active member of Riverside Church of Christ in Lafayette and served as an Elder, as well as various other roles, in the forty years he served in his church.


He is survived by his loving wife of fifty one and a half years, Sharon Hudson Sheumaker, Lake Charles; son, Scott Sheumaker and wife Marie, Lafayette, LA; daughters, Leigh Anne Warriner and husband Mark, Maryville, TN and Susan Tucek and husband Trey, Sulphur, LA; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Warriner, Christian Sheumaker, Matthew Warriner, Lindsey Neese, and Jordan Tucek; and one brother, James Sheumaker and wife Julie of Carlyss and a host of extended family and friends.


Memorial services will be Sunday May 26, 2013 at 2:30 PM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Associate Minster Danny Hebert officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the service time at the Funeral Home.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Parkinson research, Wounded Warrior Project or to the charity of the donor's choice.


The family would like to especially thank the nurses and staff of The Guardian House and Harbor Hospice for the compassionate and loving care shown to our husband, father and grandfather during his final days.
