Charles Chuck Thomas Gaskins, 88, of Starks, LA died at 2:35 PM on Sunday, September 23, 2013 in a local hospital. Mr. Gaskins was born June 26, 1925 in St. Petersburg, FL and served his country for forty-two years as a Merchant Marine, fighting in the Korean Conflict and participating in both World War II and the Vietnam War. He has lived in Starks, LA for over forty years and previously worked at Hixson Funeral Home. Mr. Gaskins was a member of First Pentecostal Church of Starks. He loved his church, his family and animals. His passion was for the Lord and he will be remembered as a true Christian. Mr. Gaskins is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Louise Gibson Gaskins; son, Troy Gaskins of Bundick, LA; daughter, Sherry Marcantel and husband Marty L. Marcantel of Deweyville, TX; grandchildren, Ronnie Frazee of San Diego, CA, Amber Frazee of Starks, LA and Victoria Gaskins; and two great-grandchildren, Kaelynn Robydek and Caleb Masten. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Ethel Knapp Gaskins and granddaughter, Brooke Bankens. His funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the First Pentecostal Church of Starks. Brother Frazier will officiate. Burial will follow in Fountain Cemetery in Starks, LA. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the start of the services.
