Charley Everett McCullough was born in Crowley, LA on July 1, 1934 to John and Zella Merle Hopkins McCullough.
He graduated from Crowley High School, class of 1952 then began attending SLI (now ULL) earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in Physics. He graduated class of 1957. He enlisted into the United States Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge in 1967.
When he was not enjoying a good science fiction novel, you could find him at the Baptist Student Union. It was here he met Joan Must, they played a vigorous game of ping pong and it was a conversation about the book “Slan” that proved she was the one for him. They exchanged vows at Northside Baptist Church in Lafayette in 1963, with the reception to follow at the student union. Charley’s work took them to Orlando, FL then to Pittsburgh, PA where he worked for Westinghouse as an Instrumentation and Electrical Engineer, for 24 years. McMurray, PA is where they raised their daughters. Later he took a job at the Bechtel Savannah River Site in Augusta, GA and worked there until his retirement.
In his down time, he loved nothing more than watching a good movie with his family, reading, writing and discussing Science Fiction, inventing, playing games, doing puzzles, photography, whistling and working on his computers. In his later years, you would find him taking walks and greeting everyone he saw. He and Joan were members of Community Baptist Church in Lafayette, LA.
He was welcomed into Heaven by his Lord and Savior, his parents and all of his past pets.
Those left to perfect and overcome his procrastination techniques are; his wife Joan L. McCullough, his daughters, Laurie McCullough and Amy (Allen) Greene; grandchildren, Charley Champagne, Devan (Parker) Bush, Bethany Greene, Hayley Greene; a brother, David (Yvonne) McCullough of Belcher, LA; a sister, Glynn (Bobby) Martin, of Lawrenceville, GA; and a brother in-law, Jack (Rose) Must.
Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, the family will welcome friends at First Baptist Church of Crowley on Thursday, July 15, 2021 beginning at 10am with a Memorial Service to begin at 11am. He will be laid to rest at Maxie Methodist Cemetery, Maxie, LA.
