Chin Doc Liang

March 27, 1962 — January 30, 2012

Lake Charles --Chin passed away at home on January 30, 2012 after a long and heroic battle with cancer.

Chin was a native of Taiwan and he came to the United States in 1988 to pursue his Master's Degree at the University of Houston. On completing his studies there, Chin went to College Station to work on his Ph, D. in Chemical Engineering at Texas AM University. After earning his doctorate in 1993, he and his family moved to Lake Charles, and he began working at Westlake Chemical, where he stayed for 19 years.

Chin was a very active member of the community over the past 17 years, having served as the Chairman of the Quality Council of the SWLA Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of ASQ of SWLA, and Chairman of the United Way at Westlake Chemical.

In 2010, Chin received the Philanthropist of Southwest Louisiana award. He was very surprised and humbled to receive the award; however, his friends reminded him that he was very deserving of it.

He is survived by his wife, Kuei Cheng and his daughter, Jessie Liang.

Chin's smile and courageous spirit even in the midst of his illness will live on in our hearts forever. His memory will be cherished and his presence greatly missed.

Chin's family will take him back to Taiwan as a final resting place.
