Clarence Lafargue, Jr.

October 10, 1939 — February 27, 2013

Clarence LaFargue Jr., 73, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013, in a Houston hospital.


Born in Kinder, Louisiana to Clarence LaFargue, Sr. and Beatrice Duplechain LaFargue, Mr. LaFargue lived most of his life in Lake Charles. He was a 1958 graduate of Lake Charles High School. As a young man, Mr. LaFargue was a barber and then went to work for the U. S. Postal Service, retiring as Bulk Mail Technician after 36 years of dedicated service. He continued his service to the Lake Charles community following retirement through the Ward 3 Marshal's Office as a Reserve Division Team Leader.


Mr. LaFargue was the State President for the American Postal Workers Union (APWU), as well as the President of the local union. He was a National Arbitration Advocate for the APWU, a member of the Constitution and Election Committee for the national APWU, and the Area 4 Director for their Accident Benefit Association. Mr. LaFargue served on the Credit and Supervisory Committee for the Calcasieu Federal Employees Credit Union.


When his children were young, Mr. LaFargue served as Cub Scout Master for Rosteet Elementary. He was a faithful member of Christ the King Catholic Church and later of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. He was a member of Msgr. Kramer's Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.


Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Sharon Lee Darlin LaFargue; children, C. Scot LaFargue and Michelle Renee' Fruge, and favorite son-in-law, Randy; grandchildren, Jamie E. Gorman and husband T.J., Brookes Reynolds and husband Stevie, and Clarence Scot LaFargue, Jr.; great grandchildren, Braelynn Grace and Jake William Reynolds; brothers, Karl, Bobby and Jimmy Gillard, Kenneth LaFargue and Merlin Duke; sister, Myra Benoit; and his babies, Sissy, T-Boy and Harley (Little Boy).


Mr. LaFargue was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Shelia Roberts and Clara Thibodeaux; brothers, E.J. and Ray Gillard; and beloved grandchild, Nicholas.


A mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Msgr. James Gaddy will officiate. Interment will be at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 until 8 p.m., with a rosary conducted by the Knights of Columbus at 6 p.m., and will continue on Saturday at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
