Josephine Claudette Floyd, 84, of Oberlin, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011 in a Lafayette hospital.
Mrs. Floyd was born in Basile, LA, raised and educated in Oberlin and attained a degree in education from McNeese State University. She has lived twenty-five years in Topsy, having returned to Oberlin for the past three years. She worked twenty-one years, a very well known, very well liked, fourth grade teacher at Maplewood Elementary. She was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association and VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Topsy.
Mrs. Floyd enjoyed reading, journaling, camping, fishing and photography. She was most famous for her cooking, canning and jarring, especially, her Mayhaw jelly. Her greatest times were spent caring for her husband, children and grandchildren and cooking for family gatherings.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of thirty-seven years, Charles Floyd of Oberlin; one son, Alfred Clegg Barton and wife Kathy of Sulphur; three step-children, Beverly Floyd of Kingwood, TX, Michael Floyd of Anchorage, AK and Angela Thibodeaux of Westlake; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, James Clegg Chaumont and wife Tootie of Oberlin and three sisters, Judy Foreman and husband Doug of Tulsa, OK, Loretta Doise of Elton and Cheralyn Hebert and husband Guinn of Oberlin. She also leaves numerous extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by husband, A.J. Barton; one son, Alvin James Barton, Jr. and one brother, Maxwell Chaumont.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3:00 PM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tim Mahoney will officiate. Interment will follow in Westlake Memorial Park. Visitation Tuesday will be from 1:00 PM until the time of service in the funeral home.
