Cleveland Crochet

Cleveland Crochet, 92, of Lake Charles, LA died on Monday, November 28, 2011 in a local hospital.


Mr. Crochet was born to Camille Crochet and Melina Trahan Crochet on January 30, 1919 in Jennings, LA and has lived in Lake Charles since 1927. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Ironworkers Local #678 for a number of years. He was know for his singing and was inducted into the CFMA Hall of Fame. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Mr. Crochet enjoyed spending time with the "Lawnmower Shop Group" and enjoyed riding his bike, hunting, and fishing.


Mr. Crochet is survived by his wife, Sarah G. Gaspard Crochet; daughter, Betty Bruney of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Gavin Bruney, Kevin Bruney, Teresita Bruney, Sarita Scheufens, Robin Prejean, Roxanne Bacarisse, Ken Thibodeaux, and Kendra Doughtery; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mable Ewing Crochet; daughter, Gloria Thibodeaux; grandchild, Leonard Bruney; and eight brothers and sisters.


His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
