Clifton Tonk Fontenot

November 14, 1925 — October 14, 2010

Clifton "Tonk" Fontenot, age 84, passed away on October 14, 2010, at a local nursing home.

Born November 11, 1925, in Eunice, "Tonk", as he was lovingly known to everyone, was a very special person, always wanting to help anyone in any way he could, especially with gardening and taking care of flowers. When he lived in Big Lake, he often would water people's gardens or flowers while they were away on vacation, as well as taking care of their dogs. Tonk was also a proud custodian for the Big Lake Gospel Tabernacle, always getting there early to prepare the church for services and having a friendly face while opening the door for everyone. In fact, the church presented him with a plaque for being "The #1 Deacon", for which Tonk was so proud of. He later became a longtime resident of Resthaven Nursing Home, where again his caretaker traits were easily noticed and welcomed. Again, he was awarded a plaque by Med Express Ambulance Service, because every time they arrived to pick up a patient, there was Tonk always willing to open the door or simply help in anyway to make the transition smoothly for them and the patient. Tonk also assisted the driver for Resthaven who transported patients to doctor appointments, standing there waiting to help open the doors and load the patients up. Another job he had there was proudly raising the American flag every morning and taking it down carefully every night. He will definitely be missed by all who knew and loved him, but Heaven has definitely gained an angel. Preceding him in death were his parents, Eugene and Aldia Fontenot.

Survivors include his sister, Eula Ellis and husband, Charles of Lake Charles; and two brothers, Huey Fontenot and wife, Kitty of Austin, TX, and Clarence Fontenot of Georgetown, TX.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at Johnson Funeral Home. Brother Ronnie Estes will officiate. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12 noon until time of services.
