Cody James Day

November 21, 1994 — June 21, 2023

Cody James Day, 28, of Lake Charles entered into Heaven Wednesday, June 21, 2023 following a brief illness from an injury.  The hearts of those he loved are broken but comforted in knowing that Cody blessed other families with the gift of saving the life of their loved one through organ donation.

Cody was born in Lake Charles and has lived most of his life in the Lake area.  He was a 2013 graduate of Reeves High School where he was a talented athlete.  He started his freshman year as a 3rd baseman for the Reeves Baseball team and started as catcher his Sophomore, Junior and Senior year.  Baseball really was his favorite pastime.  He also began work under his uncle’s supervision during high school, learning the skillset of diesel mechanics and working in that field.  He later pursued an interest in Industrial Construction where he worked as a pipefitter, primarily for his current employer, The Shaw Group.  He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting and fishing, boating and the beach.  His unspoken gift was singing, and he especially loved to sing as walked on the beach.  Cody also enjoyed watching sports, was and LSU fan and Tom Brady’s # 1 fan.  He will be remembered for his kind, loving heart, his cheerful spirit, outspoken personality and his big smile.  He will be forever loved and greatly missed.

Cody leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, John Raymond Day, Jr. and Melissa Duhon Day of Lake Charles; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Day of Lake Charles; two sisters, Charlotte Cormier (Ryan) of Ragley and Amanda Chaney of Beaumont, TX; two brothers, Sean Ross Day (Ariel) of Reeves and Eric Holden Day of WA; god parents, Kenny and Candice Brumfield of Westlake; two uncles, Patrick Day of Lake Charles and Jeff Duhon (Shelly “Nae Nae”) of LeBleu Settlement; aunt, Cheryl Leger of Lake Charles and eighteen adoring nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Amber Dawn Billings; aunt, Theresa Day; paternal grandfather, John Raymond Day, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Charles Duhon and Charlotte Ann Doucet and paternal great grandparents, Clyde and Minnie Mae Tilley.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 27, 2023 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home.  Father Jeffrey Starkovich will officiate.  Interment services will follow in Grand Lake Community Cemetery.  Visitation Monday will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary service beginning at 6:00 PM.  Visitation Tuesday will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
