Colonel Pete Airhart

Colonel E. Pete Airhart, 80 of Moss Bluff passed away at 10:15 PM Friday, September 21, 2012 in a local hospital.


He was born in Bel, LA on October 6, 1931 to Daniel E. and Cornelia Green Airhart and lived in the Lake Charles/Moss Bluff area for most of his life. He retired from Olin Corporation on December 31, 1990 after working as a carpenter there for more than 39 years. Mr. Airhart was a member of First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff.


He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lenore Husser Airhart, one son, Donald W. Airhart (Starla) of Newport News, VA; three daughters, Phyllis Airhart Young (Steven) of Moss Bluff, Sandra Airhart Khazraee (David) of Tallahassee, FL, and Carole Airhart Smith (Jim) of Owasso, OK; six grandsons, Alan Young (Lori), Bryan Young (Alana) and Jared Young (Katy) of Moss Bluff, Luke Young (Paige) of Longview, TX, Ben Khazraee (Beth) of Tallahassee, FL and Logan Smith of Owasso, OK; four granddaughters, Kathleen Khazraee of Tallahassee, FL, Olivia and Sarah Smith of Owasso, OK and Stacy Airhart of Newport News, VA; and five great-grandchildren, Lyndsey, Dylan, David, Lauren and Beau. He is also survived by two sisters, Eva Cole of Dry Creek, LA and Evlyn Dowden (Eugene) of Hickory, MS and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William (Bill) Airhart and Lawrence Airhart and one great-grandson Joshua Young.


Visitation for Mr. Airhart will be Wednesday, September 26 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles and again on Thursday, September 27 from 10 AM to 11 AM at First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff. The service will be at 11 AM on Thursday, September 27 at First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff followed by burial at Creel Cemetery in Reeves, LA under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
