Connie Milton Wright

Connie Milton Wright, 85, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 12:45 PM on Sunday, June 19, 2016 in a local care facility.

 

Mr. Wright was born July 1, 1930 in Goose Creek, TX and raised in Baytown, TX. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, attended Baylor University in Waco, TX on a football scholarship. He served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was an Army medic and played service football. While playing football for the Army, he played in the Cigar Bowl in Florida and won against the Marine Corps. After his military discharge, he continued playing football for Del Mar Junior College in Corpus Christi, TX and Trinity University in San Antonio, TX and graduated from McNeese State University in 1956. He met and married the love of his life, Yvonne Guidry and they moved to Corpus Christi, where he began his career with Reynolds Metals Company, and he worked there for twenty-one years. He moved to Lake Charles, LA to work for Consolidated Aluminum, as a Senior Reduction Engineer. His career brought him to Florence, AL as the Resident Engineer at the Reynolds plant in Listerhill and also to Benton, AR. He moved back to Lake Charles in 1997, when he retired. Mr. Wright was a member of the MSU Alumni Association and a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and watching John Wayne movies and old westerns.

 

Mr. Wright is survived by his son, John Wright and wife Anncie; two daughters, Linda Newlin and husband Kersey and Terri Wainwright and husband Leslie, all of Lake Charles; sister, Ossie Collene Martin of Crossville, TN; grandchildren, Connie Wayne Newlin, Albert K. Newlin, III, Sean Wright O’Hara, Kaitlin Elizabeth O’Hara, Kevin Michael Wright, Jesse Ethan Wright, Angel Marie Wright, John Cody Wright, and Daniel Wainwright; and four great-grandchildren, Grady Wright, Jack and Sadie Wainwright, and Noah Wright.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years, Yvonne G. Wright.

 

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Father Matthew Cormier will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 9:40 AM.

 

The children of Mr. Wright wish to express heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Resthaven Nursing Center and Brighton Bridge Hospice for the excellent care, compassion and kindness shown to their parents.
