Cornell Charles Chaumont

March 24, 1937 — February 2, 2018

Cornell “Colonel” Charles Chaumont, 80, passed away on February 2, 2018 in the comfort of his own home.

 

Mr. Chaumont was born in Oberlin, LA and a longtime resident of Lake Charles. After serving his country in the United States Navy he spent over 20 years working for the Calcasieu Parish Sherriff’s Office as a Forensic Chemist and over 30 years as a professor of chemistry at McNeese St University. Mr. Chaumont cherished his time as an educator. He was a Lifetime Member the McNeese St Alumni Association and a member of the Cowboy Club. He was also a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. In his free time he enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and playing cards. He enjoyed hunting and fishing even in to his final days. Mr. Chaumont was a family man, devoted husband, and very much loved his son.

 

He is survived by his son and pride and joy, Kevin Wesley Chaumont; brother, Seeburn Chaumont; brother-in-law, Dave Deloney (Mattie); brother-in-law, Emmit Leblanc Jr. (Yvonne); and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marlene Ann Chaumont; and parents, Wesley and Elaine Chaumont.

 

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven at 11AM on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Father Trey Ange will officiate. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home at 4PM to 8PM on Monday, February 5th. A rosary will be held at 6PM that evening. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Tuesday morning at 9AM until the start of the service.
