Curtis Curt Ross Dees

Curtis Ross Dees closed his eyes in physical death on January 27, 2012, in his home to live eternally in his heavenly home. At 73 years of age he lost a 9 month battle with brain lymphoma.


He was born May 15, 1938, in Jonesville, LA to William Harold and Ruth Alford Dees and moved to Lake Charles at the age of three. He attended Rosteet School until going to Lake Charles High School and then attended McNeese University.


Mr. Dees went to work for Cities Service Oil Co at 20 years of age and retired from Citgo Pipeline Company as Terminal Manager after a total of forty-three years. He worked for Alpha Phones and LeBlanc Enterprises as a phone, air machine and ATM technician until the time of his illness.


He was a member of First Methodist Church of Lake Charles until his adult years when he became a member of Oak Park Methodist Church until moving to Westlake in the late 1960s. He then became an active member of First Baptist Church of Westlake serving as a Sunday School teacher, Greeter/Usher, Children's Monitor, and Benevolence Team member along with numerous other ministries. He also was part of establishing the men's inter-denominational Bible Study Fellowship Class in Lake Charles and served in leadership as a Discussion Leader.


Curt had an infectious personality and was embraced by everyone he met. He was a master story teller and entertainer being able to keep an audience captivated. He liked and watched all sports, but his favorite was college football especially the LSU tigers, having watched them play since the 1950s.


He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Fox Dees, and his daughter, Lori Lynn Edwards, of Westlake; his son, Ross Alan Dees, and wife, Kelly, from Lafayette; his beloved granddaughters, Matty Edwards of Westlake and Abby, Hannah, and Emma Dees of Lafayette. He is also survived by sisters, Judy Funk of Sulphur and Angie Walker of Lake Charles, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Hans Funk and Donald Walker.


His funeral will be Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Westlake with visitation also at the church on Monday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Tuesday from 9:00 AM until time of the service. There will be a time for testimonies and celebration of Curt's life during the services. Interment will be at Westlake Memorial Cemetery.


Pallbearers will be Bobby Guthrie, Malcolm Hebert, Bennie Busby, Robert Mayo, Gary (Stitch) Guillory and James (Bubba) Dimmitt.
