With great sadness and a heavy heart, the family of Curtis James Primeaux announces his death on January 1, 2021. He was 74 years old.
Mr. Primeaux was a native of the Bell City and Holmwood communities. He was born to Clarence Primeaux and Lucille Anselm Primeaux. Following his graduation from Bell City High School, Curtis honorably served four years in the United States Navy. In 1968, he married Myrna Zaunbrecher and they have celebrated 53 years of marriage. Curtis worked ten years for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office during which he obtained his university degree from McNeese State University
After his work in law enforcement, Curtis discovered his interest and calling in the oil and gas industry. He enjoyed various positions with several companies ultimately working throughout the world. He directed drilling operations on and offshore in Africa and the Middle East as well as Mexico, the Caribbean and Arkansas. As a native Louisiana speaker of French, he was able to work closely with crews from the French African speaking nations of West Africa.
After a forty-year career in the oil business, Curtis and Myrna moved permanently to Lake Charles where they became members of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Curtis enjoyed golf and family while continuing to work in various jobs until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna and two children: Celeste (JJ) Sweet of Houston, TX, and Chad (Shelly) Primeaux of Holmwood. Grandchildren include Laurel, Kaelyn, and Matthew Sweet and Bryce Navarre. He is also survived by his siblings: sister, Bonnie Boudreaux; stepsister, Karen Conner and stepbrother, Bryan Derouen and his sister-in-law, Linda Primeaux.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles Primeaux.
Mr. Primeaux’s life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial from St. Martin de Porres on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 3:00 PM under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 2:30 PM. Following services, his remains will be cremated and interred at the Lorrain-Derouen Family Cemetery at Lorrain near Hayes, Louisiana at a later date.
Those attending services are asked to wear a mask and follow COVID social distancing guidelines.
