Cindy S. Loar, 72, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born and raised in Lake Charles to Julian Henry Smith and Edna Bell Istre Smith, Cindy lived a life full of kindness, service, and unwavering love for her family and community.
Cindy had a heart for helping others and was always the first to step up when someone was in need. A natural organizer and planner, she took great joy in making sure everything ran smoothly, whether it was for her family, friends, or church. She loved playing Pokeno with her dear friends and shared countless laughs around the table.
One of Cindy’s greatest joys was supporting her daughters during their time in the LaGrange High School Band. She spent countless hours sewing color guard uniforms, band uniforms, and flags, ensuring they were always prepared to shine. She was extremely active with her daughters softball team both in high school and playing travel ball in the summers. She was a booster parent for La Grange softball always showing her support in any way that she could. Whether it was in a hot set of stadium bleachers, or a hot concession stand she was there. Her love for McNeese State University sports, especially softball, was unmatched. She even traveled to the College World Series to cheer on the teams she loved.
Cindy cherished her travels, especially her trips to Michigan to visit her daughter and her family. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she was a dedicated member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church for over 40 years. She was also deeply involved in ACTS retreats, where she found great strength in her faith community.
Cindy is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Gene Loar; her sister Jeri Pfister (Ted); her daughters Stacy Loar-Porter (Jason) and Rachel Meredith Loar (Terence); her nieces Gayle Saucier (Lester) and Pam Senneff (Steve); her nephew James Lynch; her five grandchildren, Jaylin Davis, Harlin Porter, Kieara Ardoin, Tobe Porter, Alyssa Ardoin and Ryelin Levy; her bonus grandchild Austin Wilmore; and her great-grandchild, Rome Chretien. She is preceded in death by her loving parents and numerous half-brothers and sisters.
A memorial service to honor Cindy’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with a rosary being recited at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial donations to be made to the Children’s Miracle Network.
