Daniel Joseph Spears, Sr., 76, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 7:05 AM on Thursday, September 27, 2018 in a local care facility.
Mr. Spears was born December 6, 1941 in Lake Charles, LA, where he lived most of his life until moving to Colima, Mexico nine years ago. He worked as an Optometrist, retiring from the Eye Clinic. He enjoyed telling Boudreaux / Thibodeaux jokes, had a great pride in his Cajun heritage and loved Cajun music. He will be remembered as an avid sports fan and loved LSU and the New Orleans Saints.
Mr. Spears is survived by his wife of nine years, Maria Del Carmen Gutierrez-Gonzalez of Colima, Mexico; daughters, Danette Blankenship and husband Roger of Lake Charles and Holly Alexander and husband Mike of Ragley, LA; sisters, Dianne Adams and husband Joe of Moss Bluff and Linda Heflin of Magnolia, TX; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Audrey Mae Spears; parents, Varis Spears and Stella Bivens; and son, Daniel “Bubba” J. Spears, Jr.
A gathering of family members and friends will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 4:00 PM.
The family would like to give a special word of thanks to all of the staff at Harbor Hospice for the excellent care given to their father.
