Daniel Lee Wilks, 78, of Lake Charles died at 4:15 AM on Saturday, November 12, 2011 in a local hospital.
Mr. Wilks was born on May 14, 1933 in Manifest, LA and lived in Lake Charles most of his life. He was a machinist by trade. Mr. Wilks was an avid hunter and fisherman who adored his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Opal Wilks; eight children and their spouses, Darrell Wilks, Gay Hebert and Lloyd, Eva Brian and Ron, Dwayne Wilks and Cindy, Jason Wilks and Lorraine, Bubba Knox, Frank Knox and Paula, and Rodney Knox and Jackie; twenty-four grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Webster and Mary Ortego; a brother and his wife, Jimmy Wilks and Margaret; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Meda and Melvin Wilks; and two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 14, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. E.J. McCann will officiate. Burial will be in Birdnest Cemetery in Gillis, LA. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
