Darlene “Blond” LeBleu McElwee, 76, of Lake Charles passed away at 7:21 PM on Monday, June 21, 2021, in her residence.
Mrs. McElwee was born on January 17, 1945, in Lake Charles where she resided all her life and was a graduate of LaGrange High School. She was a woman of strong faith and belonged to the Lake City Baptist Church. Mrs. McElwee was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
In her earlier years, she and her husband took pleasure in riding Harleys together. Mrs. McElwee will be remembered for her vibrant personality who never met a stranger. Her family was her most cherished treasure and she enjoyed spending time with them and making memories. She was affectionately called “Mimi” by her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband, James “Jim” McElwee; daughters, Tammy and Cammy McElwee; granddaughters, Shelby Ashfield (Cameron) and Summer McElwee; and one great grandson, James David Ashfield all of Lake Charles. She also leaves behind her fur babies and companions, Bear and Sassy #2.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecile and Vernon LeBleu and a brother, Vernon W. “Neg” LeBleu.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, June 25, 2021, at Lake City Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronnie Estes will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the church on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will resume on Friday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
