Darrell Joseph DeRouen, 66, of Lake Charles, Louisiana died at 11:40 PM Tuesday, August 20, 2013 in a local hospital.
Darrell was born on March 9, 1947 to the parents of Delta and Francis DeRouen in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was a 1965 graduate of LaGrange Senior High School where he was a three year letterman and all-district football player. He attended McNeese State College and was a member of the Cowboy Football team.Darrel was an avid baseball player and played Little League, Babe Ruth, and American Legion baseball.
He worked for South Central Bell as a computer technician for over 30 years and he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. In 1985 Darrell opened Darrell's on Ryan Street. In 1996, the popularity of his Darrell's Special required him to move to a new location on College Street. Eventually he added two other locations, one in Sulphur and one in Oberlin, Louisiana. Darrell was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Darrell loved all kind of hunting including, duck, deer, and elk.
Darrell's huge heart and generosity contributed to his popularity in our community. He loved to cook for family gatherings and faithfully participated in all six of his grandchildren's extra curricular activities.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Susie DeRouen of Lake Charles, LA, two daughters, Dawn Renee Crum and husband Matt of Honesdale, PA, and Vicki Ann DeRouen LeBleu of Lake Charles, LA, one brother, Rodney DeRouen of Many, LA, one sister, Nikki Trahan and husband Terry of Lake Charles, LA, six grandchildren: Tyler, Austin, and Paris Benoit, and Priscilla, Madeline, and Conway LeBleu Darrell is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Victoria Rae DeRouen, his parents, Delta and Francis DeRouen, and one sister, Tana Lynn DeRouen.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, August 24, at 11 AM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Revs. Bill Miller and Jerry Snider will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Friday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Scripture Service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday at 8:00 AM until the time of services.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Terry Trahan, Jimmy Phillips, Rodney DeRouen, Conway LeBleu, Tyler Benoit, and Matt Crum; also, Honorary Pallbearers are John Holston, Mike Arendt, and Garrett Klump.
The family wished to send a special thanks to Dr. Sigmund Shu, Dr. Dong Kim, and Dr. Michael Blanco of Houston, Dr. Michael Bergeron and Dr. Robin Rougeau of Lake Charles, Spot Therapy of Sulphur and the Oncology Staff at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
