Dat Nguyen

Dat T. Nguyen, 51 years old, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022. He was born on October 21, 1970 to Dai and Lai Nguyen in Vietnam.

Dat moved to the United States when he was a little boy and was raised in Biloxi, MS. He met his wife of 30 years in New Orleans in middle school. He loved to play Tetris and karaoke. He loved to be the life of the party but never liked drama or to bother anyone. He was very generous and respectful. He always put others before himself. He always gave advice and an ear to talk to. He would give the shirt on his back if he knew you needed it more.

He was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2016. He was battling kidney failure for six years. During his battle, he would play tennis on his phone or would watch YouTube. He would have movie night once a month with his wife and daughter. He would mow the lawn and do yard work to get some sunlight plus fresh air. He would call his family to tell them stories and check in with everyone.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Candy Tran and his daughter, Mianca Tran. His mother, Lai Nguyen; siblings, Kim Nguyen (Hoa Nguyen), Thuy Nguyen (Michael Nguyen), Hang Nguyen (Sonny Vo), and Steven Nguyen, La Nguyen (Minh Nguyen), Lilylan Nguyen (Nhan Le) and Duong “Donnie” Nguyen (Ngoc Do), Dung “CK” Nguyen, and Huong Trisha Nguyen (Bao Hoang); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dai Van Nguyen and two brothers, Phong & Cuong Nguyen. Plus a nephew, Thang Nguyen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.  Father Khue Bui will serve as Celebrant.  Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home, located at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM.  Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until leaving in procession to the church.  Cremation is entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
