David Abshire

On Thursday, December 17, 2020, David A. Abshire, loving husband, and father of two children, passed away at the age of 85 in his home in Moss Bluff, LA.

David was born in Indian Bayou, LA to Almon Abshire and Nettie (Hoffpauir) Abshire. He spent 14 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve Surface Division 8-25. David primarily worked as a Contractor in the heavy construction industry for the better part of his life. He served on the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury for four years. David had a passion for playing the old gospel and country music classics on his guitar, cooking, traveling, fast trucks and cars, and loved operating a bulldozer. Following retirement, he rekindled his love for the mountains and built a home near McGregor Lake, Montana.

David was preceded in death by his father, Almon, and his mother, Nettie, his sister Trevelyn, his first wife Barbara, second wife Peggy, and stepson Matt Garrettson.

He is survived by his wife Elaine, his sister Barbara Tisdale, his daughter and son-in-law Sabrina and Bruce Knoblich, son and daughter-in-law Gavin and Michelle Abshire, stepson Todd Garrettson, stepdaughter Marcia and her husband Terry Nichols, grandchildren David, Leah, Joy, Brennan, Emma, and Reese.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Home on 2171 N Hwy 171, Moss Bluff, LA 70611. Rev. Charlie Willis will officiate. Burial will take place in Highland Memory Gardens following the service. Visitation will be on Saturday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Sunday from 11:00 AM until time of service. Flowers may be sent to Johnson Funeral Home, Moss Bluff, LA.
