David Byers

David LaMont Byers passed away on March 11, 2025 in his Oklahoma City, OK home. David was born on July 6, 1935, in McPherson, KS, to Kaloolah Smith Byers and LaMont Byers, Jr. He traveled a lot due to his father's assignments but graduated from Great Bend, KS High School. He attended the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He was employed with Conoco until retirement and last worked as a consultant with Southern International in Oklahoma City.

His first marriage produced two children, Boyd and Gayla. He married Sherilyn Mouhot Downs in 1977, acquiring a daughter, Shari, and later adding a son, Jeff. The children have produced five grandchildren which he adored. Recent health issues had made travel difficult, but he loved them all from afar.

David was pre-deceased by his parents, Kaloolah and Montie Byers in 2003. He is survived by his wife, Sherilyn; and his children, Boyd LaMont Byers and his son, Brody; Gayla Byers Doucet and her husband, Wesley, and their children David and Angelica; Shari Downs-Bokos and her husband, George, and their son Nickolas; Jeffrey David Byers and his daughter, Annabelle Kaloolah. He is also survived by his sisters, Lila Byers Clear and her husband, Don, and Jaclyn Byers Wooten and her husband, Bill, as well as nieces and nephews. He has one remaining aunt, Betty Smith, and lots of cousins. The latest to grace the survivor list is the first great-grandchild, Evelyn Jo Doucet.

David will be laid to rest in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. According to the family's wishes, a private graveside service will be held at a later date.
