David Dean Newton, Sr, 68, of Lake Charles, passed away Friday August 6, 2021.
David was born January 4, 1953 to Leon and Esther Newton of Deridder, LA. At a young age the family moved to Westlake and then to Moss Bluff where he spent some of his best days hanging out with friends on the river. From the beginning David always had an outgoing, friendly personality, and would talk to anyone. He never met a stranger and loved all people. He was a graduate of Sam Houston High School and joined the Air Force straight out of high school, where he served for 5 and a half years. After an honorable discharge, David went to trade school to become a machinist, a job in which he not only excelled, but one that he immensely enjoyed and would continue to do for the next 30+ years.
David was a hard worker, but there is no doubt his favorite role in life was that of Dad and Pa-paw. He loved spending time with his family fishing, playing games, hanging out listening to music, and being their biggest fan in all their endeavors – whether scouts, baseball, softball, soccer, choir, or band. He truly lived out what he deemed to be the most important things in life: God and Family.
He was welcomed into Heaven by his Lord and Savior; the love of his life and wife of 25 years, Marcia; youngest son Justin Newton; and his parents.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, a son, David “Dean” Newton, Jr. (Sarah) and a daughter, Laura Hiatt (James); 8 grandchildren, Hunter Newton, Hannah Newton, Jeremiah Hiatt, Marley Hiatt, and Selah Hiatt, all of Lake Charles, Michelle Newton, of West Monroe, Madeline Newton, and Amelia Newton of Lafayette; 1 brother, Robin Newton of San Antonio, TX; 4 sisters, Cathy Hoffpauir (Travis), Debra Scritchfield (David), Ruth Andrus, and Janice Montie (John) all of the greater Lake Charles area; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Friends and family are invited to come as you are; wear Overalls, Tie Dye, or whatever you are most comfortable in, and help us celebrate his life in the manner he would have most appreciated. Visitation is from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Saturday August 14, 2021 at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Moss Bluff, with the service beginning at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Louisiana Environmental Action Network, National Veteran’s Foundation, Water’s Edge Food Pantry, or any organization of your choosing.
