David L. Kimball

May 26, 1954 — May 3, 2016

David Louis Kimball, 61, of Moss Bluff passed away at 9:23 AM Tuesday, May 03, 2016 in the comfort of his home.

Mr. Kimball was a native of New Orleans who was raised in Mandeville and lived in Lake Charles for over thirty years.  He was a graduate of Mandeville High School and Southeastern University, where he was awarded a Bachelor’s degree in History. Mr. Kimball graduated from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, where he earned his Juris Doctorate. Upon his graduation from LSU Law School, Mr. Kimball, a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, began his thirty-three year career with the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.  Having served under the administrations of District Attorneys Leonard Knapp, Richard Ieyoub, Rick Bryant, and John DeRosier, he served as an Assistant District Attorney with dedication and honor in numerous divisions, including as the Misdemeanor Section Chief and a Felony Prosecutor.  In 2012, he was promoted to Chief Felony Prosecutor, and in his years of service he prosecuted every type of criminal case, from traffic tickets to capital murders. He ultimately rose to the position of Administrative First Assistant District Attorney, helping with the management and direction of the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.  He battled the best defense attorneys with tenacity and integrity, including the late celebrity lawyer Johnny Cochran.  Mr. Kimball was very highly respected among his peers, and he was a brilliant mind that enjoyed teaching and mentoring countless young attorneys over the years, as well as teaching law enforcement officers at the Southwest Louisiana Law Enforcement Training Academy.  He was a point of light and a voice of knowledge for many others.  Mr. Kimball placed great importance in helping those with mental health challenges, and he helped found the 14th Judicial District Mental Health Court, which offers offenders with mental health issues the opportunity for rehabilitation.  He was a firm believer in second chances, and he graciously assisted those who were deserving of them.  At the same time, he remained a tough and fair prosecutor whose work not only helped countless victims, but also served to keep the citizens of Calcasieu Parish safe.

He was a talented musician, singing, playing the rhythm guitar, harmonica and on occasion the drums.  His second family was the boys of his band, Bad Habits of which they played countless events over the years.   Mr. Kimball was also an avid golfer and sports fan, as he competed in many golf tournaments and along with his wife attended many LSU, Pelicans and Saints games, as well as a good weekend getaway from time to time.  He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and exploring through the Discovery and History channel.  He also enjoyed bonfires, working on his lawn, carpentry and woodworking, a skill he learned working at the shipyard to fund his education.

Mr. Kimball devoted his life and his love to his family, as a husband, father, step-father, grandfather and brother.  He loved his wife, children and step-children and had a way of making them feel special every day.  Without hesitation, he made their blended family one. He will be most remembered as an admirable man; good, simple, humble and giving.  A man who always instilled in others, the importance of “doing what is right”.  Most importantly, he will be remembered for his charm, sense of humor and ability to make others laugh.

Mr. Kimball was a man of Faith and a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church where he was a Music minister for nearly twenty years.

He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife, Sandy Faulk Kimball of Moss Bluff; two daughters, Lyndsay Kimball and Morgan Kimball, both of New Orleans; two sons, Adam Kimball and Andrew Kimball, both of Lake Charles; five step-children, Amberly Farque and husband Cullen of Lake Charles, Trinity Daley, Jacob Daley, Breanna Daley, all of Lake Charles and Heather Abshire of Vinton; four step-grandchildren, Colton James Farque, Louis Bellard, Jeremiah Bellard and Liam Daley; three brothers, Riley Kimball, Jr. and wife Sharon of Fort Worth, TX and Harold Morrell and Carl Morrell, both of Lake Charles; one sister, Judy Morrell of WA; niece, Katie Stout and nephew, Josh Kimball, both of Fort Worth, TX and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley and Elizabeth Ramon Kimball and one sister, Delia Higgins.
