David Gene Skipper

David Gene Skipper, 66, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2024, at home in Lake Charles, LA. He was born on January 13, 1958, in Lake Charles to Bobby and Pansy Goodeaux Skipper.

David enjoyed fishing, spending time in DeRidder riding his ATV, and watching Saints football. He was also a longtime competitor in the Special Olympics participating in swimming, track and field, softball, bowling, and bocce over many years. His room was decorated with many medals and ribbons earned in those events, and was (of course) decorated in the black and gold of his beloved Saints.

David’s life was marked by both triumphs and trials, and many of the things that others take for granted were difficult for him. But, that never seemed to bother him and his bright smile and love for his family - especially his mother, Pansy - were what everyone will remember.

Those left to cherish his memory are his Aunt Glenda Hurley and Uncle W. D. Goodeaux, nephew Robert Skipper, sister-in-law Susan, and cousins Tracy, Kelly, Jennifer, Carla, Craig, Caryn, Shawn, Kevin, Denise, Brent, Dawn, Jean as well as many other friends and family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Dr. Randal Skipper.

David’s funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 16, 2024 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel. Rev. Tim Bergen will serve as officiant. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until the start of the service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery in DeRidder, LA at 2:00 PM under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
