Deanna Reed Broussard

September 10, 1943 — December 17, 2022

Deanna Dale Reed Broussard, 79 years old, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022.  She was born on September 10, 1943 to Wesley and Amy Fontenot Reed in Mamou, LA.

Deanna met the love of her life, Thomas Broussard, in high school. They were married in 1964 while Thomas was in the Navy stationed in Mayport, Florida. They resided in Lake Charles and she worked at Memorial Hospital until her daughters were born.  She was a stay at home mother until her children were in middle school. She returned to work at Memorial Hospital then went to McNeese State Univ. and obtained her Master’s Degree in Education. She taught middle school English at Moss Bluff Middle School then S. J. Welsh Middle School. After she retired from the Calcasieu Parish School System, she worked at City of Faith until its closing. She enjoyed retirement years with her husband, daughters, and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are, her husband,Thomas; daughter, Shelly Gilbert; and grandchildren, Presley and Aubrey Gilbert & Chandler and Gabriel Mallett; brothers, Dean and Francis Reed and sister, Debbie McCown. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Amy Fontenot Reed; father, Wesley Reed; daughter, Deana Broussard Mallett; granddaughter, Avery Kate Mallett; and her brothers, Donald and Vincent Reed.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, December 22, 2022 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.  Msgr. Jace Eskind will preside.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the start of the service at 11:30 AM, with a rosary being recited at 11:00 AM. Pallbearers are Dr. Michael Brown, Dr. Timothy Gilbert, Gabriel Mallett, Darren Reed, Derrick Reed, and Kendall Styron.

The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful and compassionate care given by Heart of Hospice, Tina Richard and all the caregivers, and her physicians: Dr. Michael Brown, Dr. Timothy Gilbert, Dr. Ben Williams and Dr. Tommy Mulhearn.

Memorial donations may be made to the Lewey Body Dementia Association.
