Deborah Joy Gibbs

April 17, 1951 — October 11, 2012

Deborah Joy Gibbs, 61, of Hackberry passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 in a local hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.


Mrs. Gibbs was born in Wichita Falls, TX and has lived most of her life in the Lake Charles and Hackberry areas. She was the Family Readiness Group Leader for the A-Company 3-156th of the LA National Guard from 2004-2008. She loved painting and was a very creative decorator. Mrs. Gibbs passion was her family as she was a devout and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.


She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 39 years, Coach Byron Gibbs of Hackberry; two sons, Jon Ryan Gibbs and wife JoAnna of Lake Charles and 2nd Lt. Joshua Ray Gibbs and wife Taysha of New Orleans; grandsons, Aidan Ryan Gibbs and Alec James Gibbs; granddaughter, Shelby Deaton; parents, Carl and Kathryn Brace of San Antonio, TX; brother, Kenneth Wayne Brace of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-laws, Cindy Brace of White Oak, TX and Thomasine Brace of San Antonio, TX and many nieces and nephews.


The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the nursing staff of the Oncology Department of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and the many dear friends who comforted her. Also, special thanks to her chemo buddy, Eddie Landry and her chauffer Donnie Racca.


Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 13, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Charles Willis will officiate. Interment will follow in Hayes Cemetery. Visitation Friday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue Saturday from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
