Delbert “Pop” Pearce, passed away January 15, 2021 at the age of 97. Born in Lake Charles, LA January 15, 1924 to Wylie and Mable Pearce.
Delbert was a native and life-long resident of Lake Charles. He graduated from LaGrange High School where he made all-state football. He honorably served our country during World War II in the United States Navy and was stationed on the USS Wake Island. He served in the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, where his ship was attacked by suicide kamikaze planes. Delbert was a very well-known mechanic and owned and operated Delbert Pearce’s Garage for over 30 years.
Preceding Delbert in death are his parents, Wylie Benjamin, and Mable Dell Barrett Pearce; beloved wife, Marie Mouhart Pearce; and twin sons Barry and Gary Pearce. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Judy Pearce Moffett; daughter-in-law, Gayle Pearce; grandchildren, Chris Craven (Torie), Cami Hoffpauir (Philip); Monty Pearce (Amy), Stephanie Helms, Gary Lee Pearce (Nikki) and Jordan Moffett; great grandchildren, Kyle, Abbie, Cade, Bailey, Sydney, Annalyn, Hudson, Henry, Sydney, Blake, Trey, and Brittany.
Due to the COVID Pandemic, a graveside service will take place Tuesday, January 19 at 3pm at Consolata Cemetery in the Mausoleum under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to the World War II Museum, 945 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70130, an Organization which he helped establish.
The family would like to give a special word of appreciation to all caregivers that took wonderful care of him for the last four years, Linda, Mary, Desiree, Judy and Vivian and also, the staff of the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans home for their compassionate and loving care for the past four months.
