Della Marie Schexneider Carrier, 91, of Lake Charles died Sunday, March 06, 2011 in a local healthcare facility.
Mrs. Carrier was born in Vermillion Parish, raised in Washington, LA, began her family in Port Barre, LA and has lived nearly seventy years in Lake Charles.
She and her husband owned and operated Carriers Grocery on Creole Street for thirteen years. She then found joy in volunteering for over thirty years at Cross Roads Bookstore.
Mrs. Carrier was an active member of St. Margaret and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, the Ladies Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a Eucharistic Minister, Head Sacristan for many years, a member of the Order of St. Charles and the Maple Leaf Society. Mrs. Carrier and her husband assisted with funerals and weddings of the church.
She will be most remembered as a "wonderful" wife, mother; grandmother and great- grandmother, devoted to her faith and her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Mary Alice Hurst and husband Raymond of Lake Charles; two grandchildren, Elizabeth McClelland and husband Chris of Edgerly and Alice Sibigtroth of Lake Charles; two great- grandchildren, Robert and Mary Alice Sibigtroth, of Lake Charles and one brother, Herbert Schexneider of Marksville, LA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Glenwood "Billy" Carrier; her daughter, Margaret E. Carrier; parents, Calice and Elena Bonin Schexneider; two sisters, Lena Mae Richard and Edith Marks and one brother, Winnie Schexneider.
A mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation Wednesday will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary beginning at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue Thursday from 8:00 AM until 9:45 AM in the funeral home.
