Della Rose Zilk

Della Rose Zilk, 92, 0f Westlake, LA died Friday, November 27, 2015 in a local care facility.  

Della was born on March 19, 1923 in Holmwood, LA to Abra and Ada Sonnier. Mrs. Zilk was a native of Louisiana but had spent most of the last 27 years in Kerrville, TX. She had been a resident in Westlake, LA for the past five and a half years. She was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church.   She is survived by her sister, Ella Mae Rock, of Vinton, LA; sister in law, Yvonne Sonnier of Lake Charles, LA; ten nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews. Her nieces Linda LeBert and husband Ray and Wanda Beaird and husband John were her caregivers for the past five and a half years.    

Della was preceded in death by her brother, Elery J. Sonnier; as well as her loving husbands, Sam Mistretta and Jack Zilk.  Aunt Della as she was called by everyone, always found time to do child care for anyone who needed it. When she lived in Kerrville, TX she was a volunteer for the hospice program and was awarded for 8,700 hours of service. She also loved crocheting and had made many beautiful items over the years. She donated her time and many items of crochet to the Catholic Church over the years and to her family and friends.  

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, November 30, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a 6:00 PM rosary at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Monday, November 30, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Deacon Fred Reed will officiate services.
