Dennis Ray "Zim" Zimmerman

Dennis Ray Zimmerman, 68, of Lake Charles, LA, died on Friday, September 25, 2020 in his residence.

Born March 10, 1952 in Lawton, OK, “Zim” was a 1970 graduate of Lake Charles High School and attended McNeese State University. In 1980 he began working in the Marine Division for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Department and was instrumental in starting the CPSO Reserve Division. He eventually worked his way up as the director of Marine Operations for the Sheriff’s Department and spent endless hours in recovery of Cameron Parish after Hurricanes Rita and Ike. Deputy Zimmerman retired in 2015 after thirty-five years of service to his community.

“Zim” is survived by his two sons, Robert Christian Zimmerman and Christian Tyler Zimmerman; caregiver and friend Leslie McStay Zimmerman; sister, Debbie Davis; extended family, Brian Knowlton and Vickie Zimmerman LaFleur; and his best friends, Jessie Waller, Robert Noland and Rick Shetler.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at University Baptist Church, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Dr. Bart Leger will officiate. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday and continue on Thursday at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
