Dennis Roy VanPelt, 58, of Lake Charles passed away at 8:47 PM on Thursday, July 30, 2015 in a Houston hospital. Mr. VanPelt was born on December 15, 1956 in Lake Charles where he lived all of his life and attended LaGrange High School. He was a former employee for the City of Lake Charles as an electrician's helper. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. VanPelt will be remembered for being a family man who was a loving husband and father and adored his grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Angie Bourque VanPelt of Lake Charles; a daughter, Misty VanPelt Mercer (Troy) of Moss Bluff; his mother, Barbara Evans of Lake Charles; his step mother, Peggy Evans of Florida; a brother, Robert Evans of Lake Charles; a sister, Denise Mallet (Randy) of Lake Charles; three granddaughters, Kylie, Kaysie, and Kinley Mercer and one granddaughter on the way. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step father, Herman Evans and his grandparents, Cecile Nunez Hebert and Willie Nunez. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church. The Very Reverend Anthony Fontenot will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Monday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until leaving for the church at 9:30 AM.
