Dennis "Dan" Ulysse Duhon, 94, of Topsy passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013 in his residence. Dan was born on July 9, 1919 as the 9th child of 13 children born to Ulysse and Alice Duhon in Lafayette, LA. He lived most of his adult life in Lake Charles, and has lived in Topsy for the past 37 years. Dan was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. He served his country during World War II in the Navy. He was employed with Southern Pacific Railroad from 1941 to 1980. After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and farming at his beautiful home in Topsy. He loved wearing his overalls and cowboy hat while riding his tractor around his home. "Fella", as he was affectionately called, will always be remembered for his kind-heartedness and generosity by all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather that will be dearly missed. Mr. Duhon leaves behind to cherish his memory a son, Ronnie Duhon and Joyce Nichols of Topsy; a daughter, Yvonne Plaisance and husband Darrell of Topsy; daughter-in-law, Wanda Duhon of Moss Bluff; a sister, Agnes Guidry of Carencro; a brother, Willie Duhon of Abbeville; 12 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Melba Duhon; a son, Ray A. Duhon; father, Ulysse Gustave Duhon; mother, Alice Stutes Duhon; 10 siblings; and great grandchild, Bryce Plaisance. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will follow in the Old Ritchie Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the church on Monday from 4:30 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary and scripture service being held at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the start of the services in the church. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dan's caregivers: Virginia Tutson, Lois Emery, Tina Racca, Obery Goodly, Lucy Vitil, Lorena Randle, Carol McCarney, and Warren Landry as well as the staff of Amedisys Hospice: Kathy, Kallie, Penny, and Jessie. They would also like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Mouton and Dr. King White.
