June 3, 1976 — March 23, 2023

Derrick Ware Young, 46, of Ragley, LA, passed away at 4:35 AM on Thursday, March 23, 2023 in a New Orleans hospital.

Dee, Pete, or Boots, as he was known, was born June 3, 1976 in Lake Charles, LA and lived most of his life in Ragley.  He attended South Beauregard High School and worked as a heavy-duty equipment operator for the pipelines.  He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and loved old tractors.  He believed in the Lord with all his heart and was a born again Christian.  Derrick also had a softer side and liked to watch Looney Tunes cartoons, spending time with his dad watching old westerns and his mom on the porch.  He loved to listen to Cajun French music, cooking, and adored his family and their get togethers.  He loved everything sour and spicy; Warhead popsicles and flirting with women!!  He was loved by everyone he met and his famous words “AHY-EEE” will never be forgotten.

Derrick is survived by his daughter, Gracie Brooke Young of Kinder, LA; parents, Donald “Don” and Gloria Young; sister, Donna Holmes-Roy (Kevin); brothers, Clint Young (Miranda) and Wesley Young, all of Ragley; mother of his child and first wife, Ashley Andrus; best friends, Mickey Miller, Rob Frye, T. J. Eskind, and John Dyson (Rissa); nieces and nephews, Brandon, Bryan, Brent, Seth, Beth (Andrew), Dustin, Ty Jo, Courtney (Cody Bob) and Kristin; along with numerous other great-nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jamie Roberts and a close uncle, Leroy Young.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.  Ricky Farque will officiate.  Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.

The family would like to express a special word of thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans for their care and compassion given.
