Dewey James Thoms, Sr.

Dewey James Thoms, Sr., 83, of Ragley died at 4:30 PM on Thursday, January 5, 2012 in his residence.

Mr. Thoms was born on May 10, 1928 in Scotlandville, LA and lived in Ragley for the past 21 years. He was a graduate of Baker High School before serving in the U.S. Air Force. He then began his 43 year career at the Union Tank Car Company, retiring as plant manager.

He was a member of Jubilee Family Church in Moss Bluff. Mr. Thoms was an avid sports fan and had a passion for gardening and wood working.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Mary Thoms of Ragley; four children, Cresentia Lasyone of Westlake, Dewey Thoms, Jr. and wife Sharon of Denham Springs, David Thoms of West Monroe, and Cecilia Manuel and husband Warren of Abeline, TX; two brothers, Norman Thoms of Baton Rouge and Donald Thoms of Jackson, LA; two sisters, Mary Godbold of Zachary and Emily Landry of St. Amant; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ventress, Sr. and Mary Templet Thoms; a sister, Louise Talbot; and two brothers, Ventress "Buck" Thoms and Henry Thoms.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 8, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Westlake Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Sunday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
