Diana Brunet Hicks, 75, was called to her Heavenly home on Thursday, July 19, 2018, while in a Houston hospital.
Born in Eunice, Louisiana to Elden Aubrey Brunet and Joyce Aguillard Brunet, Diana was a 1961 graduate of Oakdale High School, where she was an Allstate Basketball player. She attended Louisiana College and went on to graduate from Northwestern State University in 1965 with a BA in Education. Diana passionately taught elementary and middle school for thirty years at various schools, including Oakdale Elementary, Moss Bluff Elementary, Westlake Elementary, Ouachita Christian School in Monroe, Louisiana, and Parkview Baptist School in Sulphur. She took students from Parkview on European tours to further their study in History and Social Studies. She also taught French in Moss Bluff and Westlake. She was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church and loved to sing the old hymns while playing the piano. She also enjoyed happy times traveling, shopping and working estate sales in the Lake Charles area. Diana cherished her family and the time she had with each and every one of them, and she loved Jesus and telling others of His saving grace.
Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are her daughters, Shana H. Ferryman and husband Brandon of Denham Springs, Louisiana and Hannah H. Cook and husband James of Nashville, Tennessee; her brother, Dr. Michael A. Brunet and wife Jane of Alexandria, Louisiana; her sister, Lana Brunet Bel and husband Jim of Lake Charles; five grandchildren, Tyler, Savannah, Adam, Sam and Aden; three great grandchildren, Oliver, Anna Rose and Lilly; her nephew, Dr. Michael Brunet, II; and her niece, Allison Bandy. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Louis Charrier will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon until service time. Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Basile Baptist Cemetery in Basile, Louisiana.
Pallbearers will be Adam Ferryman, Tyler Ferryman, Aden Cook, Sam Cook, James Cook, Chris Bandy and Mike Brunet II. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Bel, Brandon Ferryman and Mike Brunet.

The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their beloved mother and sister to Dr. Steve Springer and the doctors and staff of M. D. Anderson Cancer Research Hospital.
