Dolores “Dee” Laviolette Tyler, 83, of Iowa passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Tyler was born in Gueydan, LA, raised in Bell City and has lived most of her life in Iowa. She was a graduate of Bell City High School where she was awarded two academic scholarships to Louisiana College. She worked her younger years as the head bookkeeper for Gulf National Bank and Calcasieu Marine National Bank. Mrs. Tyler then began working as a cashier for the Medical Arts Group from which she retired with thirty years of service and smiles to countless patients. As a young widow with a full time job and family, Mrs. Tyler’s passion was her children. She followed and supported their school functions, dance, and softball and was a “Den” mother for her son’s Cub Scout groups. Following her retirement, Mrs. Tyler began substitute teaching for Calcasieu and Jeff Davis Parishes. It was during this time she became everyone’s “Grandee”, loved by countless children, their families and friends. She will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her children and grandchildren and for her strength, “the Cajun Viking”.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Timothy Breck Tyler and wife Belinda of Lake Charles; one daughter, Maria Tyler Williams and husband Jimmy of Iowa; son-in-law, Ray Laviolet of Iowa; brother, Leeward Laviolette and wife Dean of Lake Charles; sister, Rita Campbell of Iowa; nine grandchildren; Philip Tyler and wife Anna, Britni Maginnis; Meagan Laviolet; Haylee Shuff and husband Trent, Kimberly Williams, Brook Tyler, Shelbi Laviolet, Jacob Williams and wife Alanna, and Christopher Tyler; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Exodus “Boss” and Evie Broussard Laviolette; husband, Pete Sparks Tyler; son Byron Scott Tyler and daughter, Cynthia Dawn Laviolet.
Memorial services will be at 5:00 PM Friday, January 26, 2018 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Roland Vaughn will officiate. Visitation Friday will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service. A rosary will be recited at 2:00 PM.
