Dona Claire Braud White, 84, died Monday night, August 6, 2018, at home surrounded by her family.
Dona was a native born and raised in Baton Rouge before moving to Lake Charles where she attended Saint Charles Academy, graduating in 1951. Dona attended McNeese State College and worked as a Medical Transcriptionist at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles T. “Tommy” White, and helped put him through medical school at Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans. Together they raised seven children. Dona and Tommy were active members of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and had celebrated 64 years together in marriage. One of her favorite pastimes was to cook Sunday dinners for her family and friends, and she particularly enjoyed Easter Sundays when she made her delicious shrimp salad. Dona also enjoyed watching the New Orleans Saints, the LSU Tigers, and the McNeese State University Cowboys football.
Dona is survived by her daughter, Andrea White and spouse, Leah, and sons, Paul T. White and spouse, Marianne, Henry B. White III and spouse, Peggy, Felix “Joe” White, Charles “Tom” White and spouse, Phyllis, and George M. White; 14 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two more great grandchildren expected soon; and daughter-in-law, Lavonne “Cookie” White Dennison and spouse, Denny. Dona was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. White, M.D.; son, Charles D. White, M.D.; mother, Anna David Ramagos; father, Felix J. Braud; step-father, Joseph Nolan “Pete” Ramagos; grandson, Leland T. White; and great- grandson, Roman C. White.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 10, at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday, August 9, from 5-7 with a Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. and will resume on Friday from 8:30 AM until leaving for the church at 9:30 AM.
The family would like to thank Lil Lasha and the caregivers from Home Instead that provided compassionate care to Dona over recent months, and Dr. Ben Thompson and Dr. William Hubbard, Dona’s physicians.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to the Dr. Charles David “Chick” White Pre-Med Scholarship at the McNeese State University Foundation, Box 91989, Lake Charles, LA 70609.
