Donald Alfred Sigur

Donald Alfred Sigur, 88, of Lake Charles died peacefully on December 26, 2023. Don was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who dedicated his time and treasure to the Catholic Church. He will be missed by his large family and many life-long friends.

Don was born to John and Lillian (Pecot) Sigur on December 22, 1935 in New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduating from Landry High School, Don worked for Gulf States Utilities. While working with a team making repairs on electric lines after Hurricane Carla in 1961, he saved the life of a co-worker. He was awarded the Edison Electric Institute Life Saving Award on September 10, 1961. He continued to work as an electrician until his retiremen t.

Don was an active and devoted member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church (OLQH). He served on numerous committees raising money for the church and school building projects for over 50 years. In those years, he received numerous awards and accolades from Bishops, and in June of 2000, he was awarded the papal distinction, Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice, for outstanding service to the church and Pope.

In conjunction with his service to Catholic Family Life, in 1964, Mr. Sigur agreed to be the director of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) where he impacted many young lives. He and his wife, Patricia, also served as marriage training instructors for the OLQH parish for over twenty years.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Artigue Sigur, and his grandson, Charlie Hornsby.

He is survived by his daughters and their spouses Rosemary Ottenweller, Angela Hornsby (John), Marcelle Walker (David), Stephanie Clifton (Bob), Kate Pye (Frank), Rachel Boyd (Scott) and Monique Horvath and by his twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 30, 2023 in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church, located at 3939 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA. Msgr. Jace Eskind will serve as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on the evening of Friday, December 29 at the funeral home, located at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA, and will continue until 8:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM, and will continue until leaving in procession to the church at 10:30 AM.
