Donald L. Malone

August 16, 1942 — March 5, 2015

Donald L. Malone, 72, of Moss Bluff passed away in his home Thursday, March 05, 2015 surrounded by his family and close friends. Donald was a welder by trade but a cowboy at heart. He was born 100 years too late. He should have been alive when the cowboys roamed the earth working cattle and wild horses. He was retired from Sowela Tech as a welding instructor at Phelps Correctional. When he and his wife were first married, he worked for Sweetlake Land and Oil working cattle. After Sweetlake Land and Oil he tested cattle for the state of Louisiana. He then discovered his love for welding. Donald is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Elizabeth Scranton Malone; his daughter, Rebecca Malone both of Moss Bluff; four nieces and four nephews; five great nieces and three great nephews; and one great great nephew. He also leaves behind his beloved cats Te Nom Jolie, Stinkerbell, and Prissy, and his horse Smokey. He was preceded in death by his father, Dempsey Malone; mother Lola "Doodle" Bushnell; maternal grandparents, Harry Champagne and Mary Pitre; and paternal grandparents, Lorena Nevils and Tom Malone. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Open Door Baptist Church in Moss Bluff. The Rev. Sonny Simpson will officiate. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Theraputic Riding Center, 886 Landry Ln., Sulphur, LA 70663 or to the Hobo Hotel for Cats, 650 E. School St., Lake Charles, LA 70601.
