Donald Richard Don Schmidt

Donald Richard Don Schmidt, 77, of Lake Charles, LA died at 8:45 AM on Monday, July 22, 2013 in a local hospital.

Mr. Schmidt was born June 16, 1936 in Lake Charles, LA, where he lived most of his life. He worked his younger years as a brick mason and worked thirty years as a fish spotter in the commercial fishing industry. He retired as a pilot with Omega Protein. Mr. Schmidt enjoyed bowling in a league with his wife. He was an avid golfer and a member of Frasch Golf Course in Sulphur. Mr. Schmidt was loved by many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He leaves to honor his memory, his wife of fifty years, Laura Rogers Schmidt of Lake Charles; daughter, Donna Schmidt Brown of Lake Charles; son, Larry Allan Schmidt of Enterprise, AL; step-sons, Ronnie Smith and wife Mary of Houma, LA and Wayne Smith of Ruston, LA; sister, Billie Marie Eagle of Houma, LA; grandchildren, Sandra, R. J., Lindsey, Shelby, Caitlin, and Laura; great-grandchildren, Graham and Kinsley; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Naomi Ashworth Schmidt; two brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Wayne Dartez will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Tuesday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
