Donald Rodney Pud Verret

Donald Rodney "Pud" Verret, 81, was called home while surrounded by family and friends, Thursday, July 26, 2012.


Mr. Verret was born in Bayou Chene, LA on August 28, 1931 and at the age of five moved to Centerville, LA. In 1961, he and his wife made Lake Charles their home until called home by their Lord and Savior. He served the United States Air Force. Mr. Verret was a graduate of Centerville High School and University of Louisiana in Lafayette, formerly, Southwestern Louisiana Institute. He began his career and retired with the United States Internal Revenue Service. He was an active member of the Masonic Lake Charles Lodge # 165 FAM.


Mr. Verret was an avid outdoorsman, having enjoyed hunting and fishing all his life. His passion was working field trials with his dogs and Fishing tournaments with numerous friends. He enjoyed the countless hours he spent restoring homemade Bateaux Boats, "also known as Putt Putt Boats". Above all, his greatest times were shared with his family and grandchildren. Mr. Verret will be missed by many but "never" forgotten.


Mr. Verret was preceded in death by the love of his life of 59 years, Betty Ann Concienne Verret; father, Willard Vincent Verret, Sr.; mother, ElVira Carline Verret; one brother, Willard Vincent Verret, Jr. and one sister, Katherine Erma Verret.


He leaves to honor his memory, two sons, Donald Anthony Verret and wife Donna and Keith JamesVerret, both of Lake Charles; one daughter, Katherine "Kathy" Johnson and husband Mike of Lake Charles; eight grandchildren, Justin Verret, Christopher Johnson, Derek Verret, Amanda Jurgens, Caldon Olmsted, Patrick Johnson, Chace Olmsted and Hannah Clements; nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Deloras Ellen Butalla Sylee of FL.


Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, July 30, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. John White will officiate. Interment with will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Sunday will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Masonic service at 6:00 PM. Visitation Monday will be from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
