Donnie Edward Jackson

The angels sang as Donnie Edward Jackson departed this life according to God's appointed time on Monday, August 6, 2012 and went to receive the reward of his baptism.


Donnie Jackson, the first of one sister and three brothers was born June 19, 1940 to Beatrice and Allen Jackson of Shreveport, Louisiana.


He was blessed with knowing God and His word since early childhood. During his young life, he attended Galilee Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana where he was baptized. After leaving Shreveport, he moved to Westlake, Louisiana where he became a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. There he was a very, very active member.


Donnie moved to Los Angeles, California in 1960. He worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District until his retirement.


He joined the Greater Ebernezer Missionary Baptist Church on May 18, 1986, during which time he was a member of the Male Chorus and Brotherhood.


In 1962, Donnie married Ova L. Jackson, his soul mate of forty nine and one half years.


To be with his family in Westlake for the Christmas holidays mattered much to Donnie. He will be remembered for his big heart and willingness to do anything for anyone.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice and Allen Jackson, and his brother, Billy Jackson.


Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory, include his loving wife, Ova L. "Sam" Jackson of Los Angeles, CA, one son, Shannon Simpson of Louisville, KY, one sister, Mary Ann Jackson of San Pablo, CA, two brothers, Roger C. (Jean) Jackson of Houston, TX. and Carl R. (Deon) Jackson of Victorville, CA.; two special nieces, Cheyenne Jackson of Mesa, AZ and Shamell Bell of Los Angeles, CA., one special cousin, Ione Jackson of Carson, CA. and a host of sisters-in law, brothers-in law-, nieces, nephews, and cousins.


Services will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Good Hope Baptist Church in Westlake, LA. Pastor Madison Clark Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:00am until time of services.
