Dora Ann Pounds

Mrs. Dora Ann “Aunt Day” Pounds was born November 5, 1922 in Warren, Arkansas.  She passed away in Sulphur, LA at the age of 93 on May 18, 2016.  Aunt Day was a retired school teacher, having earned her degree at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX.  In 1968 she was married to Mr. Howard Pounds in Honolulu, Hawaii, they then moved to Groves, TX. When Mr. Howard retired from the E.J. DuPont Co. in 1989, they moved to Marshall. TX. After her husband’s death in 2007, Mrs. Pounds moved to Sulphur where she died among five generations of family and friends. Aunt Day was a caring Christian and said the good Lord was always sending “strays” her way for “help”.   She was a member of Sunset Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by all.

 Aunt Day is survived by two nieces, Rita Moseley and husband Johnnie of Harrison, Arkansas and Linda Burns and husband Rudy of Sulphur, Louisiana; and many others who called her “Aunt Day”! She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Pounds; her parents, and her sister, Verna Harper.

A gathering of family and friends for Aunt Day, wife of the late Howard A. Pounds will be conducted on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 5-9 P.M. at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. A private interment will follow in Algoma North Cemetery in Marshall, Texas at a later date.
